Comprehensive Transportation Study

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
This study was a comprehensive review of transportation needs for Middlesex County, NJ. The study included a detailed evaluation of the current community and county providers within the County in order to determine the most effective way to meet the growing and changing needs for public transportation. The study included a review of current services, financial feasibility and an organizational assessment. The study tasks included:

• A needs analysis
• An inventory and assessment of current services
• GIS analysis
• Stakeholder engagement
• Development of service and organizational alternatives
• Review of county staffing, structure and organization

The study also included the development of a range of service, organizational and staffing alternatives, a financial impact assessment and the development of an implementation strategy for the alternatives recommended. In addition, the study looked to identify corridors for service that could blend with services operated by New Jersey Transit to provide enhanced connectivity and mobility in the region.

The product of the study was development and initiation of the Middlesex County Area Transportation Service.
